Ruby comes from the Latin “rubens” meaning red. In history, ruby symbolizes power and protection. When worn as a talisman, ruby was believed to help protect warriors in battle.

The mineral zoisite is named after the collector Zois, and was first found in the Sau-Alp mountains in Austria, in 1805. It was originally called saualpite.
