Kyanite is an exotic gem that is not found in your typical jewelry store. It is quite challenging to cut this gemstone. Kyanite crystals grow as long narrow blades with a hardness of about 4.5 parallel to their length but a hardness of 6.5 to 7.0 across the width of the blade. Skilled cutters with experience are needed to work with kyanite stones. Most kyanite is blue...however it can also be clear, green, black or even purple. The most popular kyanite gemstones are transparent with a deep sapphire-blue color.
Pearls were presented as gifts to Chinese royalty as early as 2300 BC, while in ancient Rome, pearl jewelry was considered the ultimate status symbol. So precious were the spherical gems that in the 1st century BC, Julius Caesar passed a law limiting the wearing of pearls only to the ruling classes. Pearl, a June birthstone, has long been a symbol of purity. The ancient Greeks believed that pearls were the hardened tears of joy from Aphrodite, the goddess of love.
***After every wear, wipe your pearls with a soft cloth. This will help prevent any buildup of oils or other substances that may have come in contact with your jewelry throughout the day. NEVER clean pearls with a steam or ultrasonic jewelry cleaner. Both of these methods are likely to damage the outer layer of the pearl.
