Appearing as solitary forms in the fossil record more than 400 million years ago, corals are extremely ancient animals that evolved into modern reef-building forms over the last 25 million years.
The origin of the word coral is traced to Greek korllion and Latin coralium probably both derived from the early Hebrew goral meaning "small pebble".
At first, people thought Coral was a plant, so they nicknamed it the "Garden of the Sea"-such a beautiful and fitting appellation for a creature so splendid to the eye.
The creation of a Coral reef is not a quick process. Coral teaches patience. The colony may grow as little as a millimeter in a year. The result is one of nature's most impressive sculptures with no two exactly alike. Likewise, you need to learn how to pace your spiritual growth in such a way you can internalize and apply it, creating inner beauty.
The name "Aventurine" comes from the Italian word "a ventura", which translates to "by chance". A member of the quartz family, aventurine is a mixture of quartz and feldspar, with mineral inclusions such as mica or hematite that create its unique appearance. Quartz Crystal gets its name from the Greek krystallos, meaning ice, as it was thought that Clear Quartz was actually ice formed by the Gods and the word Quartz is attributed to the German word of Slavic origin Quarz, meaning hard.
Quartz is piezoelectric: a crystal develops positive and negative charges on alternate prism edges when it is subjected to pressure or tension.
Quartz is the best-known piezoelectric gem--that is, it is able to carry an electrical charge when exposed to an applied voltage, in response to pressure or in response to mechanical stressors. Quartz is also a pyroelectric gem--able to generate an electric charge through rapid states of temperature change.
(These are the scientific qualities behind reliable and accurate quartz movements in watches (regardless of weather). The same properties mean it is ideal for use in microphones, speakers, filters--even sonar!)
Quartz is an example of a naturally occurring piezoelectric crystal. Quartz crystals are made of silicon and oxygen atoms in a repeating pattern. In quartz, the silicon atoms have a positive charge and oxygen atoms have a negative charge.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR CORAL:
As coral is a comparatively soft gem material (its hardness is 3 to 4 on the Mohs scale) you'll want to keep it in its own cloth pouch so that harder gemstones won't scratch it. Chlorine, alcohol, ammonia, nail polish remover, and other household chemicals can damage the gemstone. Avoid exposing coral pieces to extreme temperatures. NEVER use an ultrasonic cleaner or steam cleaner. Instead, clean coral with a soft cloth and briefly rinse (do not soak it) in warm, soapy water.
